One would think that becoming a writer is rather difficult. Well, to tell you the truth, it’s not exactly the easiest thing in the world, but then again, it’s at the same time one of the easiest one you could ever aim for. Why’s that? Because it doesn’t require you to have any specific skill or a head full of knowledge about various subjects or matters. The answer is pretty simple in fact but you will need to have some elementary schooling before starting your journey towards becoming a writer.
What do I mean by this is the fact that you need to have the necessary basic concept that any writer has. And if you are able to read this, then congrats! You have passed! You now can be a writer! How come? Well, as I previously mentioned, it’s not a difficult thing to do. To be more precise, all you need to do to be a writer, which by the way you already are, is to… write! No matter what you write and no matter what the blank pages become filled with, once you start typing, assuming that you know the Latin alphabet or the equivalent of it in regards to your region, you automatically become a writer! Thus, the question “How do I become a writer?” is pretty stupid in my opinion. The question should be “How do I become a successful writer?” or, “How do I figure out what to write about? makes much more sense to me and so should to you to. So, this being said, let’s see how you can determine the type of writer that you are and how you can become successful at it. Alright, now that you’ve learned the alphabet and know you’re a writer, since I assume you already wrote at least one school paper during your collage, you suddenly decided that you want to write your first book. Now, isn’t that exciting? But naturally, the first question that comes to mind is, “what the heck should I write about?” Perhaps poetry or a how to book or maybe the next 21st century bestselling romance novel? Unfortunately, most people write about what they like without thinking to themselves that maybe what they fancy is not what people want to read in the first place! That’s why there are a ton of autobiographies about teenagers that want to be a writer that no one in their right mind cares about. I meant, no one even know those girls exist, so, why write about yourself if no one knows or has an interest in you? No! The trick here is firstly to figure out why you want to write! If you want to write because you simply and truly love writing then you should already know what you want your masterpiece to be about since it is assumed that you have quite the library in the back of your head filled with all of your favorite novels. Thus, writing in the genre that you love will give you an incentive about the type of book you will start writing. On the other hand, if your idea of writing is to get rich, then you will most likely fail if you don’t have a structured plan. Why’s that? Simply because for instance, on Amazon right now there are over 6.000.000 books out there out of which only 15.000 of them earn someone a monthly income (depending on his or hers region), whereas all the other are just bringing in pocket money. Point is, if you want to write to gain financial freedom you kinda have your work cut off for you. The best chance you have at gaining steady royalties are a couple of things that you can do to gain an advantage over the other writers. I’ll get into more details about this in a future blog post, but for now, I’ll limit them by saying that market research is a must, where you learn what the reading tendencies are and research about those specific subjects is invaluable, and how to go about the marketing research and become familiar with the “Hot and Trending” subjects, I’ll write in a future post. In the meantime though, know that if you write for pleasure only, then you’re safe. Since you only want to tell a story and are not interested in royalties and you simply write for the fun and pleasure of it, all you need to do is read a ton of your favorite genre and come up with an awesome story, but if you’re in it for the money, then make sure to come back to this blog and read the future posts where I will give for free the same tips and tricks that allowed me to become comfortably independent for more than two years doing what I love. Writing!
